Bible Reading Plans for 2024
Last week we released the second edition of the Bible Reading Guide.
You can ‘register’ for your copy here (it’s ready for pick up in the church office)
You can learn more how to navigate the guide here.
You read about the weekly review and why we do the guide here.
Among some great updates to the second edition, we’ve detached the Bible Reading Plan from the guide. Rather than print one plan within the guide’s pages, we are offering three different reading plan options, each available as bookmarks.
We’ll have the bookmarks available on Sunday, but here’s a short rundown on the three plans.
The NTP takes you through the New Testament in half a year. If you’re wanting to establish a new habit in daily private worship and Bible reading, I recommend this plan.
The Journal Plan takes you through the entire Bible in a year, but it only includes two readings a day (rather than four), six days a week. The two readings allow you to read at a pace ideal for journaling.
The M’Cheyne Plan, named after the 19th-century Scottish pastor known for his piety, features four readings a day from the OT and NT, covering the whole Bible in a year, and the Psalms and New Testament twice.
Choose a Plan
Several other readings are available online if you’d prefer to try something else. You can find the Kingdom Bible Reading Plan here, or the Discipleship Journal Plan here (which is David Mathis’s go-to plan).
One thing we’ve done in each of the three bookmarks we’ve printed is remove dates from the daily readings. The idea here is to emphasize reading the Bible, not the particular dates (or ‘deadlines’). If you start on January 1 and follow the list in order, you’ll complete the plan by this time next year (or in July if you do the NTP). But you might decide to stretch it out longer than a year. You have that option with the bookmarks.
In sum, choose any plan, and let’s go deep in the word of God in 2024. See you Sunday!
