Liturgy

The word “liturgy” simply refers to the elements of our worship service and their order. Our service is comprised of five key steps:

Current order of service →

Call to Worship

After a prelude song, at 10:00am, one of the pastors, on behalf of Jesus himself, welcomes everyone to the worship gathering. Following a Scripture reading and prayer, the congregation is called to worship.

Confession of Sin

After a song of praise, a pastor or deacon will give a short word of exhortation. This leads into a time of corporate and individual confession.

After confession the church receives the Assurance of Pardon, a corporate reminder of the forgiveness given to those who confess their sins by faith (1 John 1:9).

Consecration

After singing together, the church devotes herself to the preaching of God’s word. This is when the church corporately humbles herself to hear God’s voice through his Holy Scriptures.

This is the heart of the service and is typically about 35 minutes.

Communion

Following the sermon, as the crescendo of the church’s worship gathering, all who embrace Jesus by faith are invited to share together in the Lord’s Supper, eating the bread and drinking the cup to dramatize our union with him.

Because this symbolizes our union with Jesus, not every guest participates. If you’re not yet a Christian, just simply pass the elements to the person next to you.

*All bread served is gluten-free. For the cup, we offer grape juice in the outer ring of the tray; the inner rings are wine.

Commission

The mission of Cities Church is to make disciples of Jesus. That’s our mission because that is exactly what Jesus tells us to do (Matthew 28:18–20).

As his church, by his Spirit, we are commissioned out as his witnesses and disciples in these Twin Cities.

Music

We sing a combination of traditional hymns, contemporary Christian songs, and modern hymns.

Praising God through singing is an expression of a heart oriented in worship, as well as an essential discipline that shapes our heart.
