How to join Cities Church
What is church membership?
Jesus Christ created and authorized the local church to declare his gospel, and to affirm and give shape to the men and women who embrace his gospel — which is the goal of church membership.
Church membership is a formal relationship between a church and a Christian characterized by the church’s affirmation and oversight of a Christian’s discipleship and the Christian’s submission to living out his or her discipleship in the care of the church.
How do I become a member?
Becoming a member at Cities Church is a four-step process:
1) Complete The Foyer
The Foyer is an orientation on the mission and vision of Cities Church, which can be completed online through a seven-part course, or attended in-person at the four Foyer seminars held throughout the year. Check events for the next scheduled seminar.
During this time, we’ll also connect you to a Community Group in your area. We want every member to be connected to the body life of our church.
2) Affirm our guiding documents
Once you complete the Foyer, you’ll receive a prompt to read and affirm our Member Affirmation of Faith and Membership Covenant.
The former is a nine-article statement of faith that covers the basics of historic Christianity, and the latter is a document that lays out our commitments to one another as covenant members.
3) Meet with a pastor
After affirming both the Member Affirmation of Faith and Membership Covenant, you’ll be prompted to schedule a membership interview with a pastor.
This interview is intended for our pastors to hear more about your story, to tell you more about covenant membership, and to answer any questions you might have related to our church.
4) Attend membership Sunday!
On the second Sunday of each month we receive new members into our covenant membership. At the beginning of the service, the member candidates will introduce themselves, and the pastors will make a motion that they be received as new members by the current membership.
Upon that vote, the new members, along with the existing members, will affirm and reaffirm the Membership Covenant.
