Love Living Through the Trinity
God’s trinitarian love shapes the way we interact with others. The Bible doesn’t just say that God loves but that he is love. He is the essence of love.
That means God didn’t start being love or putting love into action when He made the world, but even before creation, He was love - His love was displayed within the Trinity, among the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Being a Christian means being united with God, in Christ, by the Spirit, and because of that we are connected to the very essence of love.
So when we walk in love and speak the truth in love, we can be assured that it isn’t just some abstract notion of love but a true reflection of the God who is love.
The Church is called to walk in the security and power of the very essence of love, God himself, so that we would use that freedom not as an opportunity for the flesh but to generously be free in showing and walking in his love.
In Hebrews, at the end of chapter 12 and beginning of chapter 13 (12:28–13:6) it says:
Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.
Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and [remember] those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous. Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we can confidently say,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”
And so be free to be bold in speaking the truth. Be free to be joyfully kind and loving in every interaction. Allow God’s love to free you to be generous and sacrificial with what God has blessed you with and to forsake all sin.
And let us show a dying world the eternal Triune nature of love through our very actions and words.
