Trust Jesus
What is an area of your life that you are not trusting Jesus? What is stopping you from putting your trust in Jesus? The exhortation this morning is trust Jesus. You can trust him. He is worthy to have all of your trust no matter who you are or what situation or circumstance you find yourself in.
Listen, people will lie to you, people will fail you but Jesus will never lie or fail you. Trust Jesus. We often just live in this tension, the tension of not knowing what the future holds and yet still trying to hold on to hope even as it seems to be slipping away. Our grasp is weak, but Jesus’ will never let us go. Trust Jesus. Life can be hard, it can be tragic, but Jesus is compassionate and invites us to bring our burdens to him. Trust Jesus. If anyone has been trying to earn their own salvation by their actions, if you think that your good works are what brings you to God,stop. Trust Jesus for your salvation—it’s his sinless life and his death as a sacrifice for us, and his resurrection that we trust in; any and all the good works we do flow out of that. There is no amount of good that can take away our sin. Only by the Son’s blood are we forgiven and through the Spirit are we made new.
In Matthew 11, Jesus was teaching the crowd that had gathered around him and, sensing the burden people were carrying, he invited them to come to him to find rest for their soul. I don’t know what you’re going through, but Jesus does. Maybe things are rough right now, or maybe things are ok, but no matter who you are or what your current situation in life is, right now Jesus is still calling out saying, “Come, come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
And so, to all in this room right now, lay down your burdens and find your souls rest in Jesus. Trust Jesus.
