Where We Going?
This upcoming Sunday wraps up our six-part series, “We Are Cities Church.” I’ll be giving a message titled, “Our Vision” — which is about, you guessed it, our vision!
In other words, it’s about where we want to go. Where do we see our church in five, ten, fifteen years? How do we even begin to imagine such a thing?
My goal is to spend a little time setting the table by explaining the difference between a mission and a vision, and how they’re related. Then I’ll spend the bulk of the time laying out five facts about our vision. The aim, though, is not that you remember each fact so much as you imagine how our church might look. I want to speak more to your imaginations than your heads. I want to engage your mind’s eye, not just your mind.
To catch us up on what we covered so far, Week 1 was on “Our Mission.” In short, we want to make Christ clear for Christ-likeness. That’s been the mission strategy from the beginning, and it still is. That’s how we aim to obey Jesus and “make disciples.” We’ve tried to capture this with more detail by describing our mission like this:
Then, in Weeks 2–5, we’ve tried to fill out more of what we mean by the word “disciple.” We have a four-fold calling:
We are Jesus worshipers
We are Joyful servants
We are Generous disciplers
We are Welcoming witnesses
And on Sunday, I want to tell you what it might look like if God blesses us to fulfill our mission, if we be and multiply more disciples like this. What might God do for his glory in these Twin Cities and beyond?
