The Great ‘Get To’

Here are some facts. …

First: God is supremely committed to his glory being enjoyed and exalted among all nations through the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Second: There are 3 billion people in the world who have little to no access to the gospel, and most of these people live in northern Africa, the Middle East, and through Central Asia (what’s called the “10/40 window”).

Three: Our church’s mission to make disciples of all nations — what Jesus commands us to do — must include efforts to reach the unreached in these areas.

A Quick Update

Over the past two days, I’ve been out of state with a group of pastors meeting to discuss global missions among the unengaged and unreached peoples of the world. I came to the meetings thankful for the opportunity to learn, and I leave even more thankful for how God has refreshed my heart for his heart among all nations — nations different from us in places different from here (ask me about it because I’d love to tell you more!)

I was able to hear from several brother-pastors who have, for years, faithfully shepherded their churches to obey the Great Commission passionately – and the timing, honestly, has been so providential for us as we turn the page and enter this season of new grass.

One big topic of discussion is what David Platt calls “The Great Imbalance” — the fact that 3 billion unreached people are in the world and yet only 3% of missionaries are sent to them. How can we rectify that imbalance? What can our church do, together with hundreds of other churches, to take the gospel to those who have never heard the name of Jesus?

As an extension of our mini-series on global missions this past summer, and as we continue to build our new Global Missions Pathway, I’m eager to pray and strategize on how God might involve our church in advancing his gospel to the hardest-to-reach places on earth. We know that God does not need us to accomplish his purposes — he doesn’t need anyone — but he chooses to involve us because he loves us. We get to be part of his plan to magnify his glory for all peoples in all places. Let’s call it The Great ‘Get To.’ We’re just getting started.
